HON. William G. Davis

The late Honourable William G. Davis was the Premier of Ontario from 1971 until 1985 and a Member of the Ontario Legislature from 1959 to 1985. He was appointed Education Minister in 1962 and added the University Affairs portfolio two years later. Mr. Davis practiced general law with the firm until his first election to the Ontario Legislature in 1959. From March 1985 to March 1986, Mr. Davis served as Canada’s Special Envoy on Acid Rain. During the course of that assignment, undertaken at the request of the Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Davis worked with his American counterpart to produce a report that represented significant progress on this important environmental issue. In 1982, Mr. Davis was sworn in as a member of the Privy Council. In 1986, he was invested as a Companion of the Order of Canada; in 1987, Mr. Davis was invested with the Order of Ontario. Mr. Davis leaves behind an unmatched legacy and aside from his very notable accomplishments as Premier, he will be forever remembered for his kindness, sincerity and decency. Mr. Davis will be deeply missed.
PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT
Mr. Davis was a director of several companies, including First American Financial, First American Title Insurance Company, BPO Properties, Home Capital Group and Magellan Aerospace. Mr. Davis was a Member of the Advisory Board of The Trudeau Foundation. As well as the First Canadian Title Insurance and exp Global Inc. On February 23, 2001, Mr. Davis was inducted as a Knight in l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur at a ceremony conducted in Toronto by His Excellency Mr. Denis Bauchard, Ambassador of France in Canada, acting on behalf of the President of the French Republic.
